Feast of Burden

Perhaps surprisingly or unsurprisingly, I was able to stay up for 26 hours pretty easily, and then I passed out on freshly washed sheets for what felt like a week, and in reality was only about six hours. So now I’m up in the middle of the night (but hey, at least it’s technically morning) starting my day and getting things done with the intent to get as much done as possible before the energy and the willpower run out.

I don’t know if it’s anxiety, or some sort of post-hibernation reaction that’s keeping me from sleeping all the time these days, but I guess that’s just the way things are going right now. I’d like to say that I’m angry about it, that something must be done and I intend to do it, but it’s all so old hat at this point that I’m willing to just go along for the ride and sleep when it feels right.

Now I’m wondering if there are any insomniac animals. I mean, I know that some are nocturnal, and that they can wake up almost immediately if they’re disturbed, but somewhere I wonder if there’s an owl who just squints his way through the afternoons hooting for sleep to finally come take him.
