Familiar

Lauren loved Ryan in the indulgent way that only someone not directly responsible for their well-being could. As such, she actively tried to be there for Ryan whenever she could but at the same time never actually have to take care of him. She knew that needing to be a disciplinarian of any sort would suck all the fun out of their friendship, and so she avoided ever interfering too greatly into his life, even when it got hairy. Now that Ryan was an adult, she had no qualms opening her doors to him, but she made it very clear that she ought to be a last resort option. She wanted him to have some adventures, make some mistakes, grow up a little more still. And so that’s what he was doing. He was headed to Pittsburgh with a few changes of clothes and some belongings that meant more than normal and was just going to give life with his old buddy a shot.
