Forming a Memory

Posted: September 25, 2013 in Uncategorized

From the youngest days of life, man has always tried so very hard to remember, with pinpoint accuracy, the events, places, and people that have preceded us. Sometimes we do so in vain, other times in vanity; creating fables and legends of men who may have accomplished much but would shrink in front of the deeds we ascribe to them. We do this because history promises a brand of immortality, that if we merely live in the now, we die a billion deaths until there are no many lives for us to extinguish. To say that one once stood there, and did this, and remembered when, that gives us a notch, a small marking post in the unending ocean of time. It is a falsehood, a dream of the impossible, and yet it is all that we can ever hope to cling to in order to stay afloat.
