How to Understand Peace

Posted: April 5, 2014 in Uncategorized

I am not, as so many have suggested mankind accomplish, at harmony with the world. With my fellow man, most of the time, sure. Some people, some moments, and I lose that balance. With nature, absolutely not. My skin crawls with the buzz of a fly, my hair stands on end at the sight of a bee, I am always considering ways to end the lives of the two yapping dogs across the street. Creatures that I could lift with one hand and they alone garner all of my animosity. Truly, there is no place for that in either spectrum of belief. Either I am supposed to accept their qualities as part of the world and find peace in them, or I am supposed to destroy them with reckless abandon, as keeper of dominion. Instead, I sit in my room, closing and rubbing my eyes to drown out the yips and yaps, and waking in the middle of the night with greater alertness than any alarm clock can provide after hearing the shrill whine of a possible mosquito; unable to sleep again until I have confirmed the kill.
