Saint And Barrel

We stand, rank and file, some gazing forward, others backward. A few at the others, looking for the right thing to do and not finding the answer satisfactory. But we march the lemming’s march, forward always, even those looking elsewhere, until we reach the cliff and slip off to the nothing beneath. The ground is uneven, and some drop before others, but we all take our steps evenly, one after the other. Even though we all continue this way to a terminus, the numbers swell and grow, with more walking now than there were yesterday, and so on, and so on.

So what is the alternative? There isn’t one. We all just walk this way until it no longer suits us to do so. You can complain, and you can resist, but the only way to break this mold is to run headlong toward the cliff past others, diving down and deep and quick into the blank and black, never to again crest the waterline again. So you may as well have a few conversations and take in the sights as they slowly slide past.
