You Leave Behind The Things That Leave You Worried

The rope hung near the cliff side, dangling from a tree. The water below beat the rocks nearby slowly with pure blueness, hoping that what it offered in clarity made up for the weakness of its assault. Bright shorts and a distinct lack of shirts dotted the land near the rope as arms tugged the fibers, testing its reliability. It had little to offer, but it was better than nothing. He looked at her, she shook her head. He looked at her, she offered incredulity and aggression. Finally, he shrugged the casual shrug of a man who knows he’s making a mistake but does so in order to show off as a mating display. He ran for the rope. Clasped it tightly as it bent and swung out over the rock precipice, and hooted as he plummeted through only air to the ocean below. His heart was beating intensely and the smile on his face was misleading, a mask for the terror of landing below alone.
