Onion Salad

People go to islands for vacation, because that way the ocean separates them from their lives in other places, I suppose. Even people who live near the ocean do this, to complete the process on all sides. But the ocean is just water after all. It’s something we learned to cross millennia ago, and now we do so with enough ease that you can be on the other side of the world in about a day. So why does the ocean still repel responsibility so? Perhaps it is because for one to pursue someone across the sea to an island retreat, then they too are tempted by the allure of leaving behind the stress of daily life. We can chase the counterfeiter to the Caymans, but then once we’re there it seems like a pretty smart idea to print money and live on the beach. The salt sea air proves intoxicating for all but the strongest resolves.
