Next in Line

There are a few culinary words that, in the grand scheme of things, don’t really mean anything. Casserole. Salad. These things are just collections of things in a bowl. Anything, literally anything can be in a salad. Don’t believe me? Go to a salad bar some time, look at everything on offer. There’s bound to be at least 4 or 5 things you would never put on a salad as you consider a salad to be. Yet, there they are, so someone must. Isn’t a sundae just an ice cream salad? Isn’t a stir fry just a savory Asian salad with vegetables and meat? The next time your doctor tells you to eat more salad, you look him or her dead in the eyes and you demand for more specificity. They’re just being lazy. They need to tell you exactly what it is you need to eat. Otherwise, you could just put anything you want in a bowl with some kind of wet element and eat that. Cereal, for example.
